Windows Worm Expected Soon

By Mohammad Yousef | October 13, 2005

Just one day after Microsoft released patches for holes in its Windows operating system, proof-of-concept code that exploits the critical "MSDTC" vulnerability (addressed in security bulletin MS05-051) has already been written. Although this code has not yet been released to the public, a worm outbreak similar to Zotob is predicted.

Immunity, the security research company which wrote this code, has released exploit code for two other vulnerabilities (MS05-046 and MS05-047) which were also disclosed last Tuesday. Moreover, code, that takes advantage of the vulnerability in Network Connection Manager (MS05-045), has been found on the internet.

Users of the 2000, XP and Server 2003 versions of Windows are strongly recommended to apply the patches which are available through Windows Update.
